Although The Renaissance Center opened its doors in 1999, the story behind its existence began over 50 years earlier when the City of Dickson sent out a call for a medical doctor to serve the health care needs of the community.
Answering the ad was a young, newly licensed doctor from South Pittsburgh, Tennessee, by the name of L.C. Jackson. Opening a one-room medical clinic on the second floor of a retail establishment on Dickson’s Main Street, Dr. Jackson began his practice and later was joined by his brothers Drs. William and Jimmy Jackson.

In 1958, the Jackson brothers built Goodlark Hospital. Maintaining which was purchased in 1995 by Columbia/HCA. Currently, the 176-bed hospital offers medical and surgical care, obstetrics, gynecology, skilled nursing services, 24-hour emergency services and outpatient care.  Wishing to continue to give back to the community, the Jackson brothers used the proceeds from the sale and established the Jackson Foundation, Inc.  The mission of the Jackson Foundation, Inc, is to motivate and educate children and adults through the use of technology in the area of the arts, science, and humanities. It is the underlying conviction of the foundation that education is the most significant investment that is made to improve the future of our community, our state, and our world
