Hendersonville, is a city Sumner County, on is located on  Old Hickory Lake.  Hendersonville’s nickname is City by the Lake.

Settled around 1784 it was not until the completion of the Old Hickory Dam in 1954, that the city of Hendersonville started to grow into the most populous city of Sumner County and also one of the most populous suburbs of Nashville, along with Franklin and Murfreesboro

It was first incorporated in July 1969 and Hendersonville officially began operation August 1, 1969. With higher than average household incomes, Hendersonville is the home of a highly educated and affluent citizenry and is known throughout the state as one of the finest places to live, work, and play. It offers a unique blend of city living and spacious country surroundings.

The population of Hendersonville, TN is approximately 40,620 people with the median age being 36 years of age. Of the population 92.93% White, 4.12% African American, 0.27% Native American, 1.10% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.65% from other races, and 0.90% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.71% of the population. 15,823 households out of which 35.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.3% were married couples living together.  Hendersonville, TN has a median income for a household is $ $50,108, and the median income for a family is $57,625.

The county-wide school system had approximately 26,528 students enrolled in the county school system as of August 2007. Some areas of Hendersonville are also zoned for schools outside of the city limit’s including schools in both Gallatin and Goodlettsville.

Strategically located 18 miles Northeast of the center of downtown Nashville and 20 miles from Nashville’s

International Airport, Hendersonville attributes its rapid growth to geographic location and scenic beauty. The city has approximately 38 square miles of land and 26 miles of shoreline on Old Hickory Lake.

Hendersonville annual average temperature is 71°F  with the average high temperature of 78°F in July and the average low temperature of 36.4°F in January.  The average precipitation is 53.75 inches.

You can not talk about Hendersonville recreation without talking about Old Hickory Lake.  Old Hickory Lake is  formed by the Old Hickory Lock and Dam located on the Cumberland River at mile 216.2 in Sumner and Davidson Counties, The dam and lake are named after President Andrew Jackson (nicknamed “Old Hickory”), who lived in the vicinity, at The Hermitage.

Old Hickory Lake is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and features eight marinas, two Corps-operated campgrounds, and 41 boat access sites, as well as the Old Hickory Lake Arboretum
