Mt. Juliet, is a city in Wilson County, east of Nashville and is referred to as “The City Between The Lakes”, reflecting the city’s proximity to Old Hickory Lake (Cumberland River) to its north and Percy Priest Lake (Stones River) to its south, both of which are man-made reservoirs.
In 2010, for the fifth year in a row, Mt. Juliet was again named as one of Tennessee’s top 5 “Most Business Friendly Cities” by the Tennessee Center for Policy Research. Mt. Juliet Neighborhoods
A new, large-scale commercial and residential development called “Providence Marketplace” is located on the city’s southern side near Interstate 40. The first retail phase opened in March 2006. Hundreds of homes from it’s 55+ Community to large single family homes are all part of the Providence experience.. When completed, Providence is expected to create hundreds of new retail jobs and almost double the city’s population. The retail development is called Providence Market Place, and is an open-air shopping plaza. Tenants include Target, Belk, JC Penny, Best Buy, PetSmart, Old Navy, and Kroger, among many others. Another large-scale retail project named The Paddocks is underway less than a mile north. The new development features Wal-Mart and Lowe’s, among other large retail stores
Mt. Juliet, TN Demographics and Education
The population of Mt. Juliet, TN is approximately 12,366 people with the median age being 34 years of age. Of the population 93.86% White, 3.93% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.52% Asian, 0.01% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 1.00% from two or more races. 1.17% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Mt. Juliet, TN has 4,341 households out of which 46.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 67.3% were married couples living together. Mt Juliet, TN has a median income for a household is $ 58,600, and the median income for a family is 63,065.
Mt. Juliet is the largest city in Wilson County, slightly ahead of Lebanon. The city has claimed to be the “fastest-growing city in Tennessee”, and it does qualify for this distinction if one considers growth from 1980–2000 for Tennessee cities with a population over 10,000. In recent years, LaVergne in Rutherford County and Spring Hill in Williamson County have grown by a larger percentage basis. Mt. Juliet remains one of the fastest growing places in Tennessee.
Mt. Juliet does not have a city school system but is operated under the Wilson County School District. Mt. Juliet High School is located just outside the city limits, although many students residing within the city are also zoned to Wilson Central High School located in nearby Lebanon. Mt. Juliet High School moved into a brand new building which opened August 11, 2008 for the 2008-2009 school year. The old Mt. Juliet High School became Mt. Juliet Middle School and the old Mt. Juliet Middle School became Elzie D. Patton Elementary.
Mt. Juliet is home to one K-12 private school, Mount Juliet Christian Academy located within First Baptist Church, although dozens of other private schools are located within a 30 minute drive, including Friendship Christian School in Lebanon, as well as Donelson Christian Academy in Donelson. Other prep schools not affiliated with religious organizations can be found in Nashville. There are four “tutorial programs” which meet weekly in Mt. Juliet for home-schooled high school students. Wilson County’s only Montessori School, Mt Juliet Montessori Academy, opened in Fall 2007.
Cumberland University has a satellite campus in Mt. Juliet. The nearest community college, Volunteer State Community College, is 20 miles north in Gallatin. The nearest public college/university is Tennessee State University, located 20 miles west in Nashville. The nearest private college/university is Cumberland University, 14 miles east in Lebanon. Dozens of other public and private colleges and universities are nearby in Nashville and Murfreesboro.
Mt. Juliet, TN Geography and Climate
Mt. Juliet is on Interstate 40, just minutes from I-24, I-65 and SR-840, and within a day’s drive of more than half of the American population, with highways and rail routes that crisscross the mid-south. If traffic flows East to West or North to South, there’s a good chance it will come through Mt. Juliet. Mt. Juliet has a moderate climate, with July being the hottest month and January being the coldest month. March and May are usually the wettest months. It is not uncommon for Lebanon to have some snow, but it never seems to last long.
Mt. Juliet TN Parks & Recreation
The Mt. Juliet Community Center and Charlie Daniels Park are Mt. Juliet‘s premiere parks and recreation locations. Charlie Daniels Park offers four pavilions, a gazebo, and an amphitheater available for rental. Charlie Daniels Park is also home to Planet Playground. Located right in the heart of our park, it is a great place to spend the day with your children. A one mile outdoor walking track is also available to the community. The Mt. Juliet Community Center has a basketball gym and workout facility. Along with the new Game Room, the community center is a great place for exercise and fun!! Sgt. Jerry Mundy Memorial Park is one of Middle Tennessee’s best adult softball facilities.
Currently, Mundy Memorial Park offers organized spring and fall adult softball through our men’s church league, women’s open league, Men’s 40 & up, and men’ s open league. The park is also available for weekend tournaments providing services for both adult and youth organizations. Mundy Memorial Park also offers a .75 mile walking track and a pavilion available for parties, picnics, and family outings.South Mt. Juliet City Park has a pavilion, sand volleyball court, children’s play area, and nature trail in addition to Mt. Juliet’s very own “Bark Park,” a 3/4 acre fenced-in area allowing people and their dog playspace.
Mt. Juliet is also home to one of the largest Little League baseball organizations in the state. The privately owned little league park features more than a dozen baseball and softball fields.
Fishing and boating are popular pastimes in Mt. Juliet, resultant of the city’s proximity to Percy Priest and Old Hickory lakes. Swimming is an up and coming sport in Mt Juliet and West Wilson County. Two Summer League Teams exist, one at Langford Farms and the other at Willoughby Station.
Nashville Superspeedway, a 1.33-mile oval hosting NASCAR Busch Series, Craftsman Truck Series, and Indy Racing League events, is located in nearby Gladeville.
Several professional sports teams make their homes in nearby Nashville, including the NFL’s Tennessee Titans, the NHL’s Nashville Predators, and the Pacific Coast League’s Nashville Sounds baseball team.
